What is a lightning protection system?
A system of lightning protection consists of several integral components: the lightning rods, conductor cable and ground rods. The lightning rods are placed along your home's ridge including dormers, wings, and chimneys. The lightning rods are connected by conductor cable, which terminates at the ground rods, driven into the ground for a good connection with the earth. This creates the low resistance path to ground for the lightning to travel. Thus preventing damage to the structure and preventing lightning from entering your home, protecting occupants and contents.
A properly installed lightning protection system meets all current codes and standards, including, Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. code 96A, National Fire Protection Association code 780 and Lightning Protection Institute code 175. Northeast Lightning Protection is listed with all the above codes and follows all applicable standards of the lightning protection industry. Lightning protection is a very specific industry, requiring installation specialists such as our highly trained installers who are certified by the Lightning Protection Institute. Thus untrained personnel, such as electricians, roofers and general contractors are not qualified to install lightning protection systems.
